Boilermakers extend Maryland’s losing streak

By: Connor Hoyt

Losing streaks were at odds Thursday, when Maryland arrived in Westward Lafayette to square off against Purdue.

The Boilermakers, having dropped six consecutive games, played host to a Maryland team that had lost 5 in a row.

Following 78 minutes of gridlock, Purdue finally broke a 0-0 necktie on Dannah Williams' first goal of the season.

Afterward a first half in which the briefing foes recorded a total of two shots on goal, it looked equally though a draw was imminent. Regardless of the outcome though, the Terps' biggest setback was an apparent knee injury suffered by Jarena Harmon. Sophomore Cassie Phillips replaced Harmon, the team'southward second leading-scorer, in the 33rd minute. The forrard returned to the action in the 76th minute.

Rachel Egyed was in goal for the Terps, after she played wire to wire confronting Penn Country Sunday. Egyed was tested in the second half, as Purdue took 13 shots in the period, three of which were on goal. Ultimately, the redshirt sophomore could only withhold the Boilermaker attack for and so long.

Maryland returns to College Park this weekend for a Sun showdown with Indiana. The Hoosiers have posted a ii-three-2 record in conference play, good for 9th place in the Large 10. The Terps, at one-seven-0 in the Large Ten, now find themselves in final place.
